HDTV ( High Definition TeleVision )

This is the latest enhancement to our viewing pleasure. You will need a HD ready tv.

You can get HD from Cable (AKA Virgin Media)on a monthly subscription or by bying a Freesat receiver (£130-£150 from Argos or Currys) and using a satellite dish. ITV HD is only available on Freesat. See my freesat pages here

HD may become available on Freeview sometime in the future, but I don't believe that Freeview will be able to transmit as much HD content as Freesat will.

Recording

There are now 3 ways of recording video....

1) Using a Video Cassette Recorder. They are dated, unreliable, poor quality and no longer supported very well.

2) Using a DVD Recorder. You record onto DVDs.

3) Using a PVR (Personal Video Recorder). These are devices with built in hard disc drives (as used in computers). They are extremely versatile and much easier to use than VCRs were. If you get a twin tuner version (as most of them are) you have the facility to record one program while watching another. Typically they can hold 100 hours of television programs. They come in Freesat HD and Freeview versions.
